THE CHALLENGE

This role is an entry-level position on the Commercial & Risk Management team. The primary responsibilities for this position will be to support the management of Onward Energy’s growing portfolio of assets, including energy settlements, revenue contract compliance, REC portfolio management, and market research.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a thorough understanding of Onward Energy’s revenue contracts, including long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), energy hedges, heat rate call options, etc.
  • Manage compliance of energy hedges, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and enabling agreements, included planned outages, forced outages, monthly and/or annual reports, minimum generation requirements, delivery of financial statements, etc.
  • Develop a thorough understanding and become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) of ISO settlement tariff rules, processes, and calculations as they relate to the Onward portfolio.
  • Take initiative to identify existing processes that could be improved with the aim of improving overall Commercial Operations performance and reliability and/or find opportunities for automation.
  • Manage ISO and non-ISO settlement reconciliation and invoice creation for Onward Energy’s growing portfolio of thermal, wind, and solar projects.
  • Build, refine, and maintain accurate settlement models.
  • Communicate with Onward Energy’s counterparties as necessary
  • Coordinate with the Accounting team to ensure timely issuance of invoices.
  • Work with Commercial & Risk Management team to develop new invoicing processes as the company grows.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for critical Commercial Operations processes and procedures.
  • Manage the preparation of State and Federal regulatory reporting deliverables, such as FERC EQRs, EIA reports, etc.
  • Participate in the budgeting process of Onward Energy assets.
  • Support Commercial & Risk Management team in ad-hoc assignments relating portfolio risk management, M&A due diligence, and market research.
  • Collaborate with several different teams across the company, including Asset Managers, Engineers, and Accountants, to support the day-to-day management of the portfolio assets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED

Bachelor’s Degree with quantitative focus (e.g. Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Finance). Experience may substitute for degree.

  • Zero (0) to two (2) years of experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Professional experience or related coursework in energy markets, financial modeling, invoicing, or settlements.
  • Knowledge of organized electricity markets in North America. Knowledge of bilateral energy markets a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize data from various sources, understand issues, and identify solutions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of company personnel and external customers.
  • Keen multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills; attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • VBA, Python, R, or other programming skills, a plus.
