THE CHALLENGE

Fueled by growth of the company, the Director of Performance Engineering serves as a technical resource, focusing on optimization of energy production at Onward Energy’s solar and wind plants. This position reports to the SVP of Operations and manages performance engineers and SCADA teams that develop tools and methods to identify under-performing assets and works with engineering and operations teams to deliver actionable items to mitigate them. Provides support for various technical analyses, evaluation of emergent technology, and generally assists company’s operational and financial objectives.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages a team of performance engineers to support renewable operations
  • Manages a SCADA team that focuses on controls and data acquisition systems connectivity and functionality.
  • Develops tools and methods to analyze project SCADA data to monitor and report on health and performance of wind and solar assets.
  • Implements and Manages PI Asset Framework hierarchy and analyses. Creates and maintains PI Vision displays for real-time dashboards.
  • Verifies billing estimates for third party OEM and approves payment.
  • Works with Asset Management and Finance Groups to produce monthly reports for both internal and external parties.
  • Collaborates with, and helps manage, IE’s and other 3rd party consultants on technical studies.
  • Provides technical support to commercial contract management and negotiations
  • Interacts with other Subject Matter Experts and other cross functional organizations to support various corporate initiatives.
  • Support due diligence and merger and acquisition activities.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
  • Other duties as assigned.

THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or data science, and 8+ years of experience. Applicable years of experience may substitute for degree.
  • Experience managing both performance and SCADA engineering teams is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity, or comfortable quickly learning about, various SCADA systems, SQL databases, and PI data historians.
  • Adept with Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Knowledge of basic components/operations of Solar and Wind projects, with an understanding of meaningful KPI’s.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking capability.
  • Self-starter with ability to make decisions and take necessary actions without specific direction.
  • Effective time management and organizational skill; keen multi-tasking capabilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well independently, and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Valid U.S. Driver license with acceptable MVR history.

THE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to accomplish physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.

THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position functions in a smoke and vaping free professional office environment. The role routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as laptop computer, phone, and scanner/photocopier. Noise levels can be moderate to high when visiting job sites, and may contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools.
